La Longere se trouve à 50 km de Magny Cours où se déroule le Grand Prix de France et d'un golf à Nevers (40 km).

Il y a un centre équestre à 8 km et des étangs entre 2 et 10 km où l'on peut pratiquer la peche, la voile, le windsurf, le pédalo, la natation et le canoë.

Vous trouverez des terrains de tennis à 10 et 15 km. Enfin, les sports d'eaux vives ne sont pas en reste avec le canoë (15 km) et le rafting dans le Morvan (environ 40 km).

De nombreuses promenades peuvent être faites dans les environs immédiats dont une vous conduira au site gallo-romain de Compierre. En été, la plupart des villages organise des brocantes.

Il y a de nombreux marchés, petits et grands, dans les environs dont le plus important est celui de Corbigny à 15 km.

La gastronomie tient un rôle important dans la région: les restaurants, du plus simple au plus prestigieux comme l'Espérance (Marc Meneau, 2 étoiles) à St Père sous Vézelay à 44 km ou le Côte d'Or (Bernard Loiseau, 3 étoiles) à 46 km, ne manquent pas. Pour les amateurs de vins, le village se trouve au centre de vignobles tels que Tannay (15 km), Sancerres (50 km), Pouilly-sur-Loire (40 km) Irancy, Chablis....

Nevers propose un circuit dans la ville pour admirer, entre autres, son palais Ducal, sa cathédrale et ses vitraux, la châsse de Ste Bernadette Soubirou et son musée. Faites un petit détour jusqu'à Montenoison pour sa vue imprenable.

The Area

Food is an important part of life in Burgundy and restaurants range from simple to gastronomic. To truly experience this, Marc Meneau's Michelin two star restaurant at St Père, in the shadow of Vézelay 44 kms from here, is certainly worth at least one visit, as is Bernard Loiseau's three star restaurant, the Côte d'Or, in Saulieu 45 kms away.

The vineyards too, Chablis, Sancerre and Pouilly or Tannay and Irancy are within an hour's drive and welcome visits to taste. The nearest shops are 6 kms away and Corbighy (20 kms) has a weekly market, more shops and a supermarket.

There are tennis courts and riding stables within ten minutes and many places to walk and cycle. For those who like fishing, there are lakes 3 kms away. You can also spend a day canoeing (20 kms) or go rafting in the Morvans (40 kms). The Formula 1 racing circuit at Magny-Cours is 50 kms.

Close to here is the Gallo-Roman site of Compierre where there are the remains of a prosperous city from the 2nd and 3rd centuries.

Vézelay (45 kms), is 'the eternal hill' crowned by the 12th century basilica of La Madeleine and considered to be one of the treasures of France, was where St Bernard began the Second Crusade in 1146. One of the most important centres of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages, it was the start of one of the four traditional routes towards St Jacques de Compostelle. Today it is still a magnet for visitors and an elegant town with a profusion of antique shops, galleries, esoteric bookshops and restaurants.

Nevers lies on the banks of the upper Loire river dominated by the cathedral with its two great towers, one Roman, the other Gothic with different architectural styles dating from 11th to the 16th centuries. There is also the Ducal Palace with its beautiful Renaissance façade and the lovely church of St Etienne in the old quarter. It has some excellent shops, particularly for jewellery and chocolate and is worth visiting for its imaginative and colourful chinaware. The Municipal Museum has some wonderful old examples. The extraordinarily preserved remains of St Bernardette of Lourdes can be visited at the Convent of St-Guildard.
